This is what has been keeping me busy recently: my second Baby Surplice Sweater; I finished it September 6. It's knitted with Dale Baby Ull, on size 3, 24 inch circulars and has eight 1/2 inch clear buttons at the bottom. As the baby grows, so does the sweater by moving to another buttonhole.
I didn't extend the sleeves (add cuffs) on this one.
I'd put aside all my other projects to get this one finished quickly, and it worked: it only took me a week to knit. I'll be honest that I knit fast and that I sat in front of the TV WAAAAAAAY more than usual; the TV is rarely on during the day. I'm glad we have satellite tv; gives you a lot of options to avoid the junk that's on. I'd listen to music instead, but the cadence often messes up mine or my counting.
Yes, I did get my housework and cooking done, too!
This Surplice Sweater is now at the LYS as a demo for both the pattern and the yarn. I loved working with Dale Baby Ull.
As soon as I got this one finished, I cast on another in white Bernat Softee Baby Sparkle that's been languishing in my stash for who knows how long. I've got enough to make two, which is perfect for my plan: one day, our kids will have their own children. I'm making our kids each a box with a baby afghan, sweaters, booties, socks, etc. to give them when the baby is born. I still have one afghan to finish, but am in no hurry to be a grandmother!

After a LOT of goofs and frogging, and the help of a wonderful friend, this morning (August 24, 2008) I FINALLY finished my first Baby Surplice Sweater!!!!!!!!! It's a pattern by Elizabeth Zimmerman, if you didn't know; she's the one who designed the cute-and-very-popular Baby Surprise Jacket.
This sweater was knitted with Red Heart TLC Baby yarn in Powder Blue, and I made an I-cord drawstring instead of buttons for the bottom of it.
It was frustrating at first, but I've come to love the pattern and have already chosen the yarn for the next one: Dale Baby Ull.
Picture when finished!
